Didn't do much else. Rose was not feeling very good so she did not want to go out anywhere. I'll have to make arrangements to go myself. Rose feels the affects of the hot weather a great deal, and I guess at 71 you don't feel like traipsing around with the tourists.

Sept 4/79 Tuesday
Dawn phoned this morning and offered to take us to the beach. Rose didn't want to go, so I was glad to get out of the apt. We went to a private beach which belongs to the police force. Dawn has a pass obtained through friends of hers. It was a nice little cove called

at the beach. The water was very rough with a big surf. I got swamped by it a couple of times. We all had a nice relaxing time and got back to the apt. around 3 pm. Spent the evening watching T.V. and went early to bed.

Sept 3/79
Well here I have reached my 62 birthday to day. Feel pretty good too. When I look around me I am grateful to be in such good health. Losing [that ?] weight has made me feel [MS. illegible] much better. I went into town this morning after doing some washing. I took it to day at the laundromat. Bought a few souvenirs to take home.

Sat Sept 1
Didn't do very much to day. I went into town for a while. Did some shopping. Lazed around in the afternoon and evening. Still very sunny and hot in the high 80s. There has been no rain which the island is in need of.

Sun Sept 2/79
Went to the [Musmen ?] restaurant with Rose, Fred, Dawn, Keith and little Eric for a buffet lunch which was very nice. All kinds of salad, meats, roast beef, steak, kidney pie, and sea foods. I tried a little of everything [MS. illegible] two desserts are [truffle ?] and chocolate torte. There goes my diet. Later we swam

salad with a peach dessert. The beef was real tender and cooked by the Princess Hotel. The [barbecue ?] was at the Bermudian beach club. We sat out on the terrace overlooking the beach. It was nice and cool with a [MS. illegible] breeze blowing.

Friday Aug 31/79 Friday Fred took us for a drive to Spanish Point, and pointed out interesting parts of the Island. We had lunch at the [Coves ?] Beach Club then took in the dolphin show at a natural pool called The Grotto. Friday night we went to the Moore club for a fish fry and played a game called Tombola which is like bingo only different.

Page 17

It was most interesting. I should like to go back there again and browse some more.

Thursday Aug 30/79
Dawn [MS. omitted] Keith's wife called this morning to take us to the beach. She had her little boy Eric with her. He is a very good looking little boy of 3 and [simply?] loves the water. We went to a little cove just west of Long Bay Beach. It was calm there and the water was quite warm. It was very hot around noon, so we left then came home. Thursday evening we went to the [Lion's ?] Club barbecue. We had steamboat roast beef and

not have to worry about busses and things. The shops are crowded with [Americans ?] from two cruise ships docked on front street, the [MS. illegible] and [MS. missing]. Got back about 2 and spent the rest of the day and evening just getting cool and reading.

Wed Aug the 29/79 Day 3
Rose and I went out the Marine Museum this morning. This is down at Somerset where to old British Naval docks used to be. It is a very interesting area and I am glad to see it being restored to reveal some of its former glory. Some of the building [MS. illegible] dates back to the early [1700s ?]

Page 15

which is handy to the busses, ferry and everything, and just a short walk to the main shopping area. After supper I felt very tired and went to bed around 10. Had a good sleep in spite of the traffic.

Day 2 Aug 28 Tuesday Arose around 8. Rose is working to day, so I will browse around the stores. Rose is very nervous about me going out by myself. She thinks I'm going to get robbed or knocked down by a motor bike.

[In different-colored ink] Well I managed to survive the couple of hours in town. It was very hot. I browsed around the air-conditioned shops, bought some souvenirs and had lunch in town. It's nice to be able to walk around and

a further delay and we did not get on until 11:40. After we were on the plane we did not take off until 12:30. It was really hot as the air conditioner does not start until the engines are running. I had three seats to myself as I usually do when travelling to Bermuda. Had the regular Air Canada meal of a piece of chicken, some nondescript [veget.?] and roll and cheese. Had a bottle of [guman?] wine to relive the boredom. The flight was 2 1/2 hours of uneventful blue skies.
Rose [MS. omitted] met me on arrival. The temp was 88 and very humid.

Rose has a very nice apartment in Hamilton

a side road. It turned into a dirt road and was pretty rough in spots, but much more relaxing than the 401. Got back around 8. It had turned very cool. A very nice weekend.

Aug 27 8:30 AM Bermuda Trip
Day 1 Vicki drove me to York Mills where I boarded a bus for the airport to start a 14 day trip to Bermuda. On arrival I found the plane was to leave at 11:50 instead of the scheduled 11AM. Wandered around for a while, had a cup of coffee and a Danish. Bought a bottle of scotch, then checked in at my departure station. We were supposed to board at 11:20, but there was

then spent the rest of the morning on the dock and watched Janice and Eric get their diving stufff ready, they sure need a lot of equipment. I watched in the boat, when they went in at Catfish bay. It was very interesting. I would sort of like to do it myself, but I guess it's too late to start now, besides I can't swim.

I helped them to get their tanks into the boat. Eric found a[n] anchor and lost his compass. We left around 4 o'clock for home. The traffic was very heavy. Janice went off onto

Day 3 Sunday. We went into Severn Falls to do a bit of shopping. Eric came out about 12:30. Janice and Eric went over to inspect Betty's cottage. They were not too impressed with its condition. Janice made a good meal of Chinese style vegetables. Eric set the table and I helped a little. Eric had brought wine and we drank that with the meal. I spent the evening reading and made an attempt at the white jig saw puzzle.

Day 4 Monday [illegible] holiday
After a good night's sleep I arose early. Had some breakast

Perhaps if it does not sell it will come down in price.

Cliff has sold his place to his cousins and has bought one down the W. Arm. The woman he married is no spring chicken. She has two grown up daughters.

Well we mostly sunned all day to day. Janice made a salad which we had with some cold roast beef. The day was nice, warm but not too hot. We read in the evening. Had another good night's sleep. It must be the fresh air. Does a lot for insomnia.

Roland are up on their Holidays. They are both aged somewhat from the last time I saw them. Bill has been in the hospital a couple of times with his heart. He seems to survive each attack, maybe it's his steady diet of booze and cigarettes that keeps him going. They are putting their cottage up for sale. Janice is uninterested but they are asking 24000. It needs a lot of fixing and must be overrun with wildlife, mice and other creatures because they only come up there once a year. Janice would like to buy it and rent it out for income.

Page 8

The weather was fine and the cottage sure looks nice and homey. The new sliding doors which Janice had put up last fall, sure made a difference. There is a lovely view up the lake. We had a little supper then went to bed. I slept very well and was up early.

Day 2 Saturday
Beautiful warm sunny weather. Hung around most of the day just relaxing and reading. Janice went swimming. I ventured into the water but did not really enjoy it. However I did get wet.

Weekend at Janice's cottage Aug 3, to Mon, Aug 6 [MS illegible] Day
Day 1

Janice picked me up at home around 6:30, and we proceeded via 401 to 400 the traffic was very heavy but moving at a moderate speed not stop and go, as I have seen it at times. There was a big sailboat in the ditch and marks of where it had come off its trailer on the road. It suffered a huge hole in its side. They had obviously not secured the thing properly. We arrived about [8?] at the lake head, after a brief stop in Colwater for beer.

Sportmens Motel where we had a good nights' sleep. It was very cold.

Day 2 June 24

We had breakfast at the Mi Home then Vicki and I and the girls [Jen?] & Liz wandered around the falls for a few hours. Jenny & Liz had not seen the falls before and were very thrilled with it all. We got back home around 4:30 and it was a lovely wedding and a nice week end.

Page 5

On the way there we managed to get lost in Welland after about 1/2 an hour we found the right way. We had coffee and sandwiches and stayed there a couple of hours then on to the reception. It was a great feast, all kinds of hot foods fish and meats also salads and very delicious cakes.

We danced a lot and had a few drinks. All in all it was a lovely wedding. Marilyn's gown was lovely and Marilyn looked absolutely gorgeous. Roger was good looking too and so were the bridesmaids [Rosie?] Patty Adele and Wendy. We went back to the

but Roger was given an alternate route by the provincial police and we followed the car he was in which was driven by Paul [omitted] his best man. We arrived at the church about 1 PM. [Nan?] and her party from Cornwall were already there. Rosemary, Lary, Roberta and Russ.

The wedding ceremony was lovely a double [MS. illegible]. Alan read a passage from the bible which was very impressive, and he read so well, he sure has a nice voice. After the ceremony Vicki and I and the children went to Marilyn's [parents'?]

Day 1 June 23, 1979

Left Scarbourough about 8:30 AM very chilly and cloudy day stopped at Mr Doughnut in Burlington. Sheila, Liz and Jenny stuffed themselves with a cream filled chocolate doughnut and grape drink. Vicki and I just had a coffee. We then procceded to the Sportman's Motel on Highway 20 and Niagra regional Rd 50 where we had a reservation. We then got dressed for the wedding. There was a big parade in the Town for the festival of the roses which blocked off the way to the church

TRIP TO WELLAND AND NIAGRA. June 22/79

This is to be about places visited. I have decided the first should be the occasion of journeying to Welland for Roger's and Marilyns' wedding which should be a very happy trip.

I am going to leave at 8:30 AM in the morning. In my Honda, with Vicki, Sheila Liz and Jenny. Hope the weather is nice.

I should mention here, to day is Alan's birthday he is 31. I was that age when he was born.
